I am on a roll making new and fun little "shopping bags" for Miss V's American Girl Dolls. You can find the original printable at Sewing for American Girl Dolls. This time I used a digital scrapbooking kit called Some Assembly Required.
I made a red one and a light blue one.
The front of the bag has these elements.
The back of the bag has this element.
Miss V absolutely loves them and asked if we could get some new mini-figures to go in the bags.

More Shopping Bags
Earlier today, I printed out the shopping bag instructions. They were super easy to make, and you can find the original at Sewing for American Girl Dolls.
Miss V wanted to know if I could personalize some bags to things she likes. So I modified one of the bags with my digi scrapping stuff and made a simple Puppy Place Bag.
Now if I could find some cute things to make for Meatloaf and Chocolate Chip.....

Capri Length Pajama Pants for American Girl Doll
Well it looks like Miss V picked out new capri length pajama pants and cute tops to sleep in for Kathleen and Marie-Grace. Oh the fabric for the pants were actually a pair of Miss V's old pants that were headed to the trash since they were outgrown and the seams were coming undone.

So I spotted this idea on Pinterest and then followed the link that was not working. So I looked around a little more and found the link, you can find them at Sewing for American Girl Dolls.
I can't believe that Kathleen and Marie-Grace went shopping. Can't wait to see what Miss V picked out for her girls.

Reversible Wrap Skirt, Christmas paisley and white
Here is another reversible wrap skirt that I made in under 30 minutes. You can find the free pattern at You Can Make This.
I really love this fabric.
The white side actually has a tiny white flower pattern. So pretty.

Reversible Candy Cane and Solid Red Wrap Skirt
I saw this months ago on Pinterest and thought how cute. But...the idea of making something other than a simple rectangular skirt kind of freaked me out. I downloaded the free pattern and it has been sitting in a binder since then. Well today, I found my courage to make it. What is the worst that can happen? I ruin a bit of fabric. I did mess it up a tiny bit on the very top seam and just top stitched that part.
Oh you can find the free pattern at You Can Make This.
Miss V just got home and says it is so pretty!!!

Tights for American Girl Doll
Ok so as much as the other tutorial looked good, I just have a hard time making it work. Then another one popped up on Pinterest. So I tried with a pair of socks from the dollar store. This works better, but if you have an argyle or a pattern, watch how you cut and sew them. I noticed after that mine were mismatched. Oh well, Miss V could care less.
I will try again with other socks that I picked up.

Solid Red Skirt, Simplicity 4297
Here is another skirt from the Simplicity 4297. The fabric is solid red that I found in the remnant section at Hobby Lobby. I thought it would be cute to add a little bow. I am awful at making bows, so I had a friend make a bunch for me last week while sitting at the book fair.
Sparkly Skirt from Simplicity 4297
So I have this white tulle with little dots of silver glitter, and thought about how I could use this for Miss V's American Girl Doll, Kathleen. I started out with white material then cut the glitter material a little longer.
Miss V really loves it!

Liberty Jane American Girl Urban Handbag
Liberty Jane American Girl Urban Handbag is another pattern I love and pretty much make them without looking at the directions. Is that bad????
Kathleen wanted to show you since it is Christmas time, this bag doesn't have a button closure, but a mini matte silver jingle bell, Merry Christmas!

Chevron Skirt, Simplicity Pattern 4297
I absolutely love the Simplicity Pattern 4297. I love the simple straight skirt and so does Miss V.
I went to Hobby Lobby last week and picked up a bunch of Christmas fabrics that were on sale for 50% off and then went to the remnant section and found some cute chevron fabric that is oh so trendy right now.

Reconstructed Santa hat for $1.00
So the other day I was at Target and spotted a cheesy looking Santa hat and knew I could reconstruct it to American Girl Size. The idea came from Pinterest of course. It came from You Can Make This.
Tutu and Jersey shirt
Tulle Tutu from Simplicity 1711. Last was the Book Fair at Miss V's school and there is a lot of down time, so I sat and made lots of Christmas themed tutus. The shirt is a 3/4 sleeve jersey shirt from the same pattern number.

Christmas Mod Podge Christmas Votive
So I had tried different versions a few months back with trying to punch out Christmas/Winter Shapes and well it was very difficult so I put the project to the back of my brain.
Last week, I decided to revisit the idea and went looking for votive holders. I know our local dollar store has them, but probably wouldn't have 48. I just happened to get my weekly email from Hobby Lobby and listed right there were cute little Roly Poly Votive holders. They were originally $1.49 and were on sale for $0.74. Woo Hoo....off to Hobby I went and purchased 50 and they still had a shelf full when I left.
So the little holders have been sitting waiting for me to come up with a plan. Well last night inspiration hit, why don't I just rip little pieces of tissue paper and make it like a little mosaic?
I think the kids at Gift Making day will have to work on this first so that they have plenty of time to dry. I think it came out pretty cute.

Ribbon Christmas Trees
If you follow my foodie blog, Life of a Foodie and Her Family, you will notice how much I love Pinterest. Well our church has an annual Gift Making Day for Kids. I wanted the kids to make something different that what I demonstrated last year.
So that of course led me to Pinterest. I wanted something that would be easy for all ages to do, yet something "nice" and not childish, if that makes sense.
First thing I found was little ribbon Christmas trees made out of Styrofoam cones. Well off to Hobby Lobby I go and found a two pack of cones and lots of different ribbon. Hello 50% off Christmas Ribbon!
The cones were kind of pricey at 4.50 for two. So I searched online for a bulk supplier and found The Craft Place. I ordered 48 cones that are 4 inches by 2 1/2. They are 1.16 each.
Oh so lets get back to my sample. It is a bit larger, but that is ok. It is pretty self explanatory. I cut pieces of ribbon that were 3 inches long, folded it over gently and used a Dress Maker's Pin to pin the ribbon onto the cone. Repeat and overlap the layer just a tiny bit.
I wasn't really sure what to put at the top, but thought maybe a sparkly pom pom would look ok, so Miss V and I went to Hobby Lobby this morning and picked up a couple packages. Used another dress makers pin to attach the pom pom.
I also have a TON of cute scrapbook paper and cut them into strips that were 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long and attached them with the pins.
I think they both look adorable. I love that each child will be able to switch up the colors and patterns and make a truly personalized gift for someone they love.
I think I am going to put these little cuties on our fireplace.
So what do you think of them????? I would love to hear your feedback.

Jersey 3/4 sleeve from Simplicity 1711
Of course Kathleen need some sort of "Halloweenish" top to go along with her cute little orange Tutu.
The instructions call for an applique and I couldn't find any so I bought some buttons. The Pumpkins are flat and I thought it would look cute with the tutu.
Looks like Miss Kathleen is almost ready for Trick or Treating. Just need to make a cute little bag and some better tights.
